What’s happening at Wahroonga

Love was in the air, everywhere you look around (sorry John Paul Young), at Wahroonga in February.

Staff at Wahroonga Aged Care, Kaitlyn and Wayne, get creative for Valentine’s Day. PHOTOS: supplied

Love was in the air, everywhere you look around (sorry John Paul Young), at Wahroonga in February.

We had dancing, bubbles, balloons, and Valentine Heart making were all on the agenda, and it isn’t a Friday without bubbles (the alcoholic kind) out in the shade with great friends.

Check out the photos of residents dancing.

I just love the facial expression of two of our residents with the bubbles.

Our creative programs staff Kaitlyn and Wayne are just looking a treat in their Valentine’s Day outfits.

Last month our staff worked with wound innovations to do a wound prevalence survey.

This means that each resident’s bed, mattress, and skin integrity were looked at to ensure we are providing the best of care to our residents.

We did this 18 months ago with some very good results and improvements, one of the best outcomes was the new skills and experience that three of our staff now have within this area – a very valuable skill to have.

Moove and Groove training for staff this week happened on February 16.

Moove and Groove programs for active seniors bring person-centered experiences and improves the wellbeing of seniors via easy-to-use technology.

Following the training, we have 10 staff within our Dawson Wing who are able to utilize this service.

We are looking forward to trialing this technology and seeing the outcomes from it.

Mini Market Garden

Don’t forget our Mini Market Garden Cart is located at the front of the Administration.

The Pumpkins are $3 each and the plants are $7 each, payment can be made at Administration, and out-of-office hours is an honesty system.

Tai Chi

Tai chi started again on February 15 as part of the Community Tai Chi program for over 65s, through the Community Home Support Program (CHSP) funding.

It will be held 9am to 9.30am in our Kroombit Wing Activity and Education Centre.

If you would like to attend, please call Wahroonga on 49928300 and we can assist you in joining in this very beneficial activity.

Congratulations to those who signed up early.

Thank you to those who have signed up through our CHSP program to have home maintenance and grounds work done, your support is just wonderful.

Did you know Wahroonga is also able to service your Home Care Packages?

Our CHSP has some vacancies for lawn mowing, so if you are eligible and have My Aged Care approval (it doesn’t matter if you don’t, we can sign you up) and think that $6.50 is a great price per hour for mowing services, then give us a call.

Contact Service Manager Lorna Perrett for further information on 4992 8300.

This week was a huge training week for staff.

We had Moove and Groove, NDIS training, Dementia Essentials, and PC training days.

What a great way to learn new skills and support our staff to provide improved care, and most importantly how to look after themselves, because they are truly worth the investment.

But, in the meantime, until next week remember –life is short, be true to yourself, be true to your values, be kind, and spread joy.
