The Wowan Sports Club conducted another successful game of cricket on Saturday with the first round of the Crawford Cup, in memory of Lawrie Crawford.

Defending their title, the Dululu team took out the honours on Saturday and Wowan will be keen for the next game to be played on Saturday, March 20.

Spectators and players saw some great cricket played with plenty of sixes and fours.
The heavens were about to open but the rain held off, I don’t think anyone would have minded if it was abandoned due to rain.

Wowan Golf: Hot conditions didn’t deter some golfers from having a good round of golf on Sunday in the first round of the B.M.W Shield at Wowan.

The second round will be played at Moura in June.

Wowan goes into the lead after the first round with 509 points, followed by Baralaba 519 and Moura 542.

Best netts for the men were: Baralaba - Scott Lang 70, runner-up Ethan Bloxsom 72, Moura Brett Maller 74, runner-up Lindsay Elliott 75, Wowan Daley Mallet 69, runner-up Brian Moretti 71. Ladies – Baralaba Leonie Trail 75, Moura Pauline Lambert-Barker 76, runner-up Lorna Luhrs 79, Wowan Shai Pearce 71, Kylie Myles 74.

Pinshots were won by Scott Lang, Shai Pearce, Daley Mallet.

This Sunday there will be a club competition for those not going to North Rockhampton Men’s Open. Tomorrow the Wowan Golf Club will be holding their Ladies Open Golf Championships with lady golfers from throughout the CQ District playing, so hope the weather gods are good and some cooler weather would be great.

They look forward to a great day of golf.

Well done to local Junior golfers Nathan and Holly Vickers who recently competed in the Gracemere Junior Open. Nathan won the 13-hole nett and Holly won the 9-hole nett.

Congratulations to you both and enjoy your junior golf this year.

Like the adults, the junior golf program is a busy one too.

The Wowan Show Society will be holding their Annual General Meeting tomorrow night Saturday, February 27 at The Reynolds’ Family home commencing at 6 pm.

Could all members please bring a hot dish for the shared dinner which will be enjoyed after the Annual General Meeting.

Have you got your team nominated for the 2021 Wowan Bowls Club Bowls Challenge?

Nominations close on March 15.

The new format for this year’s competition is teams of three.

Happy birthday wishes are extended to Tanya Heckels, Mikaela Grange, Melvin Boto, Kaine Godwin, and Les Peacock. Happy wedding anniversary to Steve and Karen Scott.
